During the last week of the first leg of Black Watch's Round-the-World cruise, i.e. , from Southampton (England) to Callao (near Lima, Peru), the photographic team aboard Black Watch were promoting a competition for passengers to enter their own photos, taken during the cruise so far, in three categories:
Cruising, Scenery and People.
For about a week, passengers were encouraged to bring their memory cards along with the appropriate photo(s) which would be printed for judging by as many of the passengers as wished to vote.
My entries were:
Cruising -
Scenery -
People -
On the penultimate day, voting slips were available and the various photos displayed. A small crowd gathered around the photo sales desk on the last evening of the cruise, mostly people who had entered photos, to hear the results. The Photo Sales Team Leader tried to make it a little bit exciting, but there weren't really enough people.
Then, one by one, he unveiled the winning photographs ............
I was very pleased to win the 'Cruising' category, though the prizes of a fridge magnet (of my photo) a large (10" x 8") print and a photo of us (if we'd wanted it) wasn't overwhelming. Actually, we were allowed a big print of Black Watch entering the Panama Canal (instead of a photo of us), which was really nice.
But all the winners were pleased to have won, especially the lady who took the cactus photo, who was in tears of emotion.
I was also pleased about the winner of the people category, as I'd voted for that one (and it had a horizontal horizon, which many didn't).
